Githogoro Medical Camp

The camp was held on the 15th of July from 9.00 am -3.00 pm at PCEA Beulah Church.

It was carried out in partnership with Women4Cancer Early Detection and Treatment, Gertrude’s Hospital Githogoro Branch and the Beulah Church.129 adults and children who came to the camp were taken through a screening process for BMI, HIV AIDS diabetes and blood pressure. Drugs were provided for common infections and other ailments. Those with Diabetes and hypertension were referred to Gertrude’s Hospital for further investigations. The final screening was for women of reproductive age for breast and Cervical cancer. 53 women presented themselves for screening but only 43 met the conditions.

Partnership

Women for Cancer provided the kits for cervical cancer testing and the attendant staff, Gertrude’s Hospital provided the Clinicians, Pharmacist and Lab technologists. Beulah church provided the Breast and Cervical Cancer screening Improvised screens to ensure privacy while attending to the patients

Cancer Staging

    • Stage 1(Insitu): The cancerous cells are present but have not spread to nearby tissues
    • Stage 2 (Localized ): The cancerous cells are confined(limited)within the site of origin with no signs that it has spread to nearby tissues
    • Stage 3 (Regional): The cancerous cells have spread to nearby lymph nodes, tissues and organs
    • Stage 4 (Distant/Metastatic ): Cancer cells have spread to distant parts of the body

Risk factors both modifiable and non-modifiable Non Modifiable factors are the ones we have no control over to include age, gender, race and ethnicity. Modifiable factors we got control over to include diet and, lifestyle, eg.smoking and taking alcohol
