Tumaini Cancer Awareness Mission to PCEA Ngangarithi, Nyeri 26th March 2023

The Mission was coordinated with Rev. Vasco Muraguri and the Chairperson for Health Mrs. Emily Maina. A talk was given in each of the two church services and about 300 people attended.

Breast screening was also done and people were taught and demonstration done on self- breast examination to be done on 7-10th day of Menses and for the post-menopausal women and men to do it on a specific date of the month Total number screened 59 (including 13 men) Suspected Cases 2 (Women)

They were referred to Nyeri Referral Hospital for further investigation with help of the church health chair lady who works for NRH

Cancer Staging

    • Stage 1(Insitu): The cancerous cells are present but have not spread to nearby tissues
    • Stage 2 (Localized ): The cancerous cells are confined(limited)within the site of origin with no signs that it has spread to nearby tissues
    • Stage 3 (Regional): The cancerous cells have spread to nearby lymph nodes, tissues and organs
    • Stage 4 (Distant/Metastatic ): Cancer cells have spread to distant parts of the body

Risk factors both modifiable and non-modifiable Non Modifiable factors are the ones we have no control over to include age, gender, race and ethnicity. Modifiable factors we got control over to include diet and, lifestyle, eg.smoking and taking alcohol
